Let's mix it up and pull the greens out of our green smoothies. Keep in mind leafy greens are essential but it's important to mix it up, variety is what really allows us to thrive on a plant based diet. This smoothie is loaded with veggies, it's delicious and a nice change. The Vortex Makes 1Ls 2 cups water 3 ice cubes 1/2 red beet 1/3 zucchini 1/2 organic apple, fuji or gala 1 organic oranges 1 organic carrot 1" ginger, peeled 1 tbsp hemp Peel the oranges, but leave the skin on everything else. Blend smooth and down all that veggie love. Thanks Gosi for the inspiration, as always.

Green Goods By special request for Asil here is a visual recipe for those of you still trying to figure out your quantities. This is one of the goodies favourites. Green Goods Smoothie Handful organic spinach 2 sprigs flat OR curly parsley 1 stalk organic celery 1 organic pear 1 organic fuji apple 2 tbsp hemp hearts 1 date, pitted (optional) 4 cups filtered water Blend until smooth, should make two servings. We like adding hemp to our smoothies at THE GOODS, 2 tablespoons has up to 11g of protein, and we all know plant protein is where it's at right!

Photo cred RW Photography I'm going back to my Ad job next week. It really got me thinking about everything and all the changes that have happened. It has been an epic year my friends. Little ones have grown, I've shrunk, I have found my voice and nurtured my passions, I have fortified existing friendships and even made some new ones. I have a new understanding of the concept "You are what you eat" and "Let food be thy medicine". I have a new love and respect for Ontario and organic farmers and I've ditched the gluten and dairy (for the most part). I have more energy now then I did in my twenties - I even threw a birthday party for 17 four year olds (I may not be repeating that one though). I drink a green smoothie everyday and can't live without chia or hemp hearts. I'm in love, surrounded by love and am loved. Wanna know what else? I celebrate my love affair and friendship with LL. She found a way to get through to me and quite literally turned my life around. She invited me into this wonderful, crazy world of The Goods and I'm blessed to have her in my life. Love you Biz. Madly. This one's for you.

Photo Cred Lisa I love this recipe, everyone loves this recipe. It's delicious, extremely simple to make and good for you. Still feels like a novelty, right! Typically pesto is made using pine nuts, but they're pretty pricey at $20+ a pound. I made a batch using hemp and it was fantastic. So here we go again, honestly you will not be sorry. Both Cat and I smother it on everything from zucchini noodles, to crackers, to our index fingers. Best Hemp Pesto Ever  3 cups basil leaves, tightly packed 2 cloves garlic 2-1/2 tsp lemon juice 2 tbsp miso paste 1/2 cup cold pressed olive oil 1/2 cup hemp seeds
Blend all the ingredients on medium speed, and enjoy!
