We got a space. We're going bananas, we're soooo excited. Aiming to open for takeout and pre-order pickup very early 2014, we'll be found at 1255 Dundas West at Dovercourt, South side. Our current delivery service will continue as usual. There is now a kilometre long to-do list, so we're going to take a blogging break. But will be posting lots of photos of THE GOODS' progress at 1255. It's sure to be an adventure. Much more information to come, we thank every gosh-darn one of you for being enthusiastic, encouraging and wonderful. Like us, follow us Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @thegoodsisgood

photo cred Cat Yup, this is my brother Simmah. I love him. He is kind, gentle, outrageously funny, selfless, extraordinarily smart, talented and beautiful, he knows everything about just about everything and above all is the most supportive person I know. He is allergic to milk, eggs, seafood and is gluten intolerant. He also avoids consuming any and all animal products. Essentially, he’s vegan not for any political reason but because his body fights against the machine.  If he accidentally eats something that has any of the above ingredients it does him significant damage. Eating out is a risk. Eating in general has to be scrutinized and ingredients triple checked before consumption. This is not a lifestyle choice this is his reality. Try taking a different approach to cooking and eating. Try a gluten free dish. Experiment with a vegan dish. You'll find that it's dead easy to do and people in your life that have dietary concerns will love you for it.

Melon Cake Triple P strikes again, this time she hit us with a dessert which was devoured with glee! Finally something good comes of her obsessive Pinning... Super easy to make, chop a watermelon in half, flatten out the bottom and clean off the rind so you have a nice round cake shape. Ice with a vegan whipped cream or if you're up for an intermediate raw recipe challenge try Elaina Love's Sky High Whip Cream... it's beyond delicious, sugar-free and good for you! What the?! We decorated the cake with berries, but you could consider doing it Parker-style with some rainbowed fruit. Keep in mind watermelon moves fast through your system, so eating it after rather than before consuming two burgers and a mini keg (or in our case bowls of Mexican riced cabbage, hummus and gluten-free crackers) will make for pregnancy scare bloat-out for sure. Or try it yourself if you don't believe me... Happy Monday! It's gonna be a good week.

20130510-155857.jpg Wow what a week, one of the ugliest in a while. Not typically my style to let a tough week get to me but sometimes it just does right! Anyway lots of good stuff too as always, including my lovely afternoon with Asil. We headed to the Junction and stumbled into Cool Hand of a Girl, having done zero research I wasn't hopeful there would be anything for me to eat. So after a long-winded request for something without eggs, dairy, meat or gluten the woman stopped me and described the most amazing avocado sandwich which she could make with gluten free bread, toasted almonds in place of cheese and a vegan lentil soup on the side. I am not kidding I think I heard angels sing. If you've seen Asil and me together you can imagine our over the top exuberance did not wind down for a good 30 minutes. The owners are beyond lovely as is the atmosphere and the food. Check them out!

Photo cred RW Photography I'm going back to my Ad job next week. It really got me thinking about everything and all the changes that have happened. It has been an epic year my friends. Little ones have grown, I've shrunk, I have found my voice and nurtured my passions, I have fortified existing friendships and even made some new ones. I have a new understanding of the concept "You are what you eat" and "Let food be thy medicine". I have a new love and respect for Ontario and organic farmers and I've ditched the gluten and dairy (for the most part). I have more energy now then I did in my twenties - I even threw a birthday party for 17 four year olds (I may not be repeating that one though). I drink a green smoothie everyday and can't live without chia or hemp hearts. I'm in love, surrounded by love and am loved. Wanna know what else? I celebrate my love affair and friendship with LL. She found a way to get through to me and quite literally turned my life around. She invited me into this wonderful, crazy world of The Goods and I'm blessed to have her in my life. Love you Biz. Madly. This one's for you.
