Photo Cred Lisa Yeeesss chocolate is good for you. Not that junk from the corner store... but delicious, rich, raw chocolate. Cacao is raw chocolate (pronounced ka-cow), it's been minimally processed and never heated above 110°. You can find it at most health food stores and some grocery stores. You want to make sure the English spelling is cacao, if it's cocoa it'll be cheaper. Trust me, you want the raw stuff with all the minerals, vitamins and antioxidants still intact. If this is your first time having raw chocolate, pace your damn self, it's a stimulant and a superfood so a little goes a long way. Broken Chocolate 1/2 cup cacao powder 3/4 cup coconut oil 1/4 cup unpasteurized honey 1/4 tsp Himalayan pink salt Chopped nuts, seeds, dried fruit OR coconut flakes (optional) Mix all ingredients together by hand, it'll be easier if coconut oil is in liquid form. Pour mixture onto a serving platter lined with parchment paper and place in the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes. Once solid you can break the chocolate into pieces. Coconut oil is only stable when cool so it's best to serve out of the fridge in warm weather and it will keep for 6 months to a year. Now you can make your own chocolate anytime you want and eat it without guilt. Less guilt more chocolate!

The Goods Macashake Our macashake is full of energy packed ingredients and lots of antioxidants, omega 3s and protein naturally. It might even make you a slight bit randy, rumor has it maca was Viking viagra... so be ready! Macashake 2 tbsp chia seeds 2 cups water 1 tbsp maca 1 tbsp cacao 2 tbsp sweetener - i.e. xylitol, coconut sugar, honey 1/2 tbsp vanilla powder 1 tsp cinnamon dash ginger or cayenne Frozen fruit - i.e. pint strawberries or blueberries, banana and add ice if needed Put all ingredients in blender except frozen goods, blend on lowest setting to mix only and let sit for 15 minutes (so chia can soak) before blending on high speed until smooth. While on high add all frozen ingredients until desired consistency reached or mixture freezes. This is a great treat to take with you to work in a thermos, or for an outing on a sunny day. It also makes super tricky healthy popsicles for kids with a few alterations. The only reason I suggest taking out the cacao and maca for the kiddies is because they're high energy and most little ones don't need anymore of that! Kid Pops 2 tbsp chia seeds (OR 1/4 cup raw nuts like almonds, macadamia, pine) 2 cups water 2 tbsp honey 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp cinnamon dash ginger Frozen fruit - i.e. pint strawberries or blueberries, banana add ice as needed Follow same directions above, then fill popsicle molds or ice cube trays and freeze! And it's good for you!

Chocolate Banana Quinoa After Friday's post about breakfast quinoa I got a little crafty in the kitchen. I love chocolate and bananas, so I used the same left over quinoa and mixed in some cacao, sliced banana, with pumpkin seeds and a dash of honey for sweetness. Delicious! Chocolate Banana Breaky  1 cup cooked quinoa, salted 1 ripe organic banana, sliced 1/2 tsp raw cacao 1 tsp raw honey dash vanilla Mix by hand and enjoy the mind-blowing, all good for you breakfast. The magic of real food %&*!

Insteada Here's a recipe that's popular with the agency kids, like Teres who can't get enough of it! I don't blame her, it's delicious and a real pick me up first thing in the morning. I recommend having it cold, but using warm/hot water works too. It's packed with amazing nutrient dense, high energy super foods so probably not the best snack before bed. Insteada' Coffee Serves 2 1 cup of filtered water 1 tbsp chia seeds 2 tbsp raw cacao powder 3 tbsp coconut sugar 1 tsp maca 1/2 tsp cinnamon dash cayenne dash Himalayan pink salt 4-6 cubes of ice OR 1 cup hot water Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high until smooth. Add ice OR hot water, blend to desired consistency. Allowing the chia seeds to soak for 15 minutes before blending will provide a silky smoothie texture.
