photo cred Cat New obsession. Quinoa puffs. They are lovely and a really nice & healthy breakfast alternative. Serve it with some sliced fruit and homemade almond milk. And don't forget your peppermint tea with a dash of local unpasteurized honey. Nice one Gov'na. Quinoa Puffs (think making popcorn on the stove) 1. Check to see if your organic quinoa is pre-washed. If not, rinse thoroughly and let dry. 3. Spread a single layer of quinoa in frying pan over med-high heat. 4. Keep mixing/shaking the pan until you smell them roasting, then remove from heat immediately (constantly agitating them will prevent burning). 5. Transfer to a bowl right away - cool - eat. Store leftover in air-tight glass jar. They can also be sprinkled on salads too for a different texture. Enjoy.

photo cred Cat I'm not lying when I say this but this actually happened last week. Auds: "Muma, can I have a smoothie for breakfast?" Me: "Absolutely, what shall we put in it?" Auds: "Banana, mango, grapes... Me: "And let's put some zucchini & lettuce & hemp cause we want some veggies too right?" Auds: "Sure Mama, I'm not going to taste it anyway" The Aud-ly Good Smoothie 1 cup of homemade almond milk 1 banana 1/2 cup mango 1/2 cup grapes 1/2 sm zucchini 2  med romaine leaves 1 tbsp hemp hearts Blend and enjoy. Add more almond milk for desired consistency.

The Goods Macashake Our macashake is full of energy packed ingredients and lots of antioxidants, omega 3s and protein naturally. It might even make you a slight bit randy, rumor has it maca was Viking viagra... so be ready! Macashake 2 tbsp chia seeds 2 cups water 1 tbsp maca 1 tbsp cacao 2 tbsp sweetener - i.e. xylitol, coconut sugar, honey 1/2 tbsp vanilla powder 1 tsp cinnamon dash ginger or cayenne Frozen fruit - i.e. pint strawberries or blueberries, banana and add ice if needed Put all ingredients in blender except frozen goods, blend on lowest setting to mix only and let sit for 15 minutes (so chia can soak) before blending on high speed until smooth. While on high add all frozen ingredients until desired consistency reached or mixture freezes. This is a great treat to take with you to work in a thermos, or for an outing on a sunny day. It also makes super tricky healthy popsicles for kids with a few alterations. The only reason I suggest taking out the cacao and maca for the kiddies is because they're high energy and most little ones don't need anymore of that! Kid Pops 2 tbsp chia seeds (OR 1/4 cup raw nuts like almonds, macadamia, pine) 2 cups water 2 tbsp honey 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp cinnamon dash ginger Frozen fruit - i.e. pint strawberries or blueberries, banana add ice as needed Follow same directions above, then fill popsicle molds or ice cube trays and freeze! And it's good for you!

20130415-151305.jpg Yum yum! Strawberries, organic 2 for $5 on Roncy and they are more delicious than they have been in what seems like a looong while. I whipped up this little number over the weekend and I am in love! Good To Be True makes 2L 1 pint organic strawberries 1 organic fuji apple 1 giant handful of organic spinach 1/2 med zucchini 1 tbsp hemp 4 cups water dash of stevia (optional) Blend it up, drink it down. I'm going to make another right now, my mouth is watering.

Making raw vegan milk at home is so simple, I suggest everyone give it a try as it's one of those really liberating raw food techniques that easily expands your repertoire. Start with something simple like chia milk since the seeds only need to soak for 15 minutes, or hemp seeds which don't need any soaking. Nut and Seed Milks 1 cup raw nuts OR seeds 4 cups filtered water vanilla and stevia to taste (optional) Rinse the nuts and soak overnight if necessary, see soaking chart. Blend the nuts with the 4 cups of water (more or less for desired creaminess) until smooth, strain through a nut milk bag* and you're done! Pretty must the same deal as blender juicing. Keep milk in a sealed glass container for up to 5 days in the fridge. Hazelnut milk is my fav, it's delicious with Sprouted Quinoa Cereal. Oh and freeze the pulp and use for raw desserts. *shhhh I've even used a clean nylon stocking in a pinch.
