Cat & Smoothie Oh shit, I'm obsessed. This is what's in my morning smoothie today. 2 cups filtered water 1 banana 1/2 cup of soaked raw sunflower seeds (soak 'em for 1 hour prior) 1 massive handful of mixed greens 3/4 cup of frozen wild blueberries It's blowing my ever-loving mind right now. Ok, now I'm awake. Right. Let's get to it.

photo cred Cat Just got back from a fabulous mini trip to Cancun, sans l'enfants. It was 3 days, it was beyond glorious but why does my body always have to pay for it?  It was an all-inclusive, need I say more? It was a complete assault on my body. I ate and drank way too much and in a nutshell, my body shut down. Oh I ate all the glorious fruit, fresh guac & salsa I could but let's be honest, I'm was not eating all my usual stuff (you know, the stuff with all the fibre, if you get my drift). But I wasn't completely unprepared. I knew this would happen so I actually brought a ziplock of the magic muesli. I should have had it everyday but the day I did, it worked and I felt instantly better. Next time, I shall eat it every day while I'm away -- and maybe opt for a non-all-inclusive next time. I swear...I'm my own worse enemy sometimes.

Bunch of Coronation Grapes Best grapes ever... coronation grapes, very popular in Canada cause they're Canadian and available only in September. I love them, they remind me of that deep purple grape juice I drank as a kid. Here is a delicious smoothie recipe that tastes just like grape juice, but with way less sugar and way more good stuff. Grape Juice Smoothie Makes 2Ls 2 leaves organic purple kale 1 handful organic spinach OR bok choy 1/4 zucchini 1 organic fuji apple 2 big handfuls coronation grapes 4 cups filtered water 10 drops stevia (optional) Blend it up, drink it down. Check your teeth. Side note: If your roomie tells you their mother never let them have grape juice as a kid cause they spilled too much, that probably means they shouldn't have grape smoothie as an adult. Confirmed.

Photo Cred Lisa It's been a gorgeous, sunny weekend and I can hear that blasted ice cream truck doing its lap around the neighbourhood. Peachsicle, Orangesicle OR Whateveryouwantsicle 2 cups nut milk 3 ripe peaches OR 2 med oranges 15 drops stevia 5 drops vanilla 1/2 tsp ground vanilla pods (optional but good) 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tray of ice, more or less Blend all ingredients adding ice one cube at a time until desired thickness. Play around, add nutrient dense superfoods like cacao and a bit of maca for a richer, chocolatey flavour. Cinnamon is said to lower blood sugar, which balances the fruit sugars and stevia sweetens without increasing the glycemic index of the treat! Win win, everybody's happy... except the driver of the ice cream truck.

Photo Cred Lisa It's peach season! I'm so excited!! Peaches, when local and in season, are the most delicious fruit on the planet. Move over mango. Plus these are first round peaches, give them another few weeks and oh sweet jesus! I've been all about juices for the last few days, due to the heatwave, so I just squeezed this tasty combo: Fuzzy Peach Juice  2 ripe peaches 1 yam OR sweet potato 1/2 cucumber At least two handfuls of spinach 1 cup of water (if needed) Wash, chop, blend and strain OR juice Peaches eaten seasonally have lots of great health and beauty benefits, and with just a touch more sugar than apples. They're also a great fruit to buy in bulk at the market to slice and freeze OR dehydrate for the winter. If you can manage not to eat them before the cold weather gets here that is. Sorry, no more talk of winter.
