Lychee Love


Have you seen these little weirdos at the market… they’re lychees, they’re tropical and they’re delicious. Red when first picked, they turn brown after being chilled but that doesn’t affect the fruit inside.

Lychee contains vitamin C, 72mg per 100g compared to the 53mg in oranges. So roughly 9 lychees is the daily requirement of vitamin C.

Use your hands or a small knife to peel back the hard skin and then peel the aromatic fruit inside away from the seed. A perfect snack on the beach or at the cottage. Eat them as is or add them to smoothies, salads and desserts.

Cool Lychee Smoothie
Makes 2Ls

1 leaf of organic kale
1/2 head organic leaf lettuce
9 lychees, peeled and pitted
4 mint leaves
1/3 organic cucumber
1-1/2 organic apple
2 cups filtered water
1 tray of ice

Blend all ingredients except ice until smooth. Add ice, blend again then share with a friend.

  1. I’m in love with this fruit, yum! :) Do you happen to know when they are in season/available in stores in the US? I always get them when I see them. And I’ve been thinking about them a lot lately.

    1. Looks like June and July are the months to find them in the US and Canada. Though I have seen them at some Asian markets through August. They are soooo good, go get em.
